Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stepped up its policy regarding the deportation process that infuriated those with “open-borders” advocacy groups.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue to tweak and slow the process for those in ongoing detention and removal proceedings. The administration’s new initiative policy department announced its first Public Advocate, ICE Senior Advisor Andrew Lorenzen-Strait.
Mr. Lorenzen-Strait will assist individuals, including those in immigration proceedings, NGOs as well as other advocacy groups concerned with detention removal of illegal aliens.
"As our first Public Advocate, Andrew Lorenzen-Strait will work to expand and enhance our dialogue with the stakeholder community," said ICE Director John Morton. "We want the public to know that they have a representative at this agency whose sole duty is to ensure their voice is heard and their interests are recognized, and I'm confident Andrew will serve the community well in this capacity."
Lorenzen-Strait’s prior experience as an analyst for policies related to immigration enforcement, detention and juveniles and senior advisor for Enforcement and Removal Operation’s (ERO) detention management division makes him the perfect choice to assume community liaison duties with ICES. Lorenzen-Strait’s private sector experience with Community Legal Services of Prince George's County provides valuable real-world knowledge to alleviate immigration proceedings.
Morton said Lorenzen-Strait will report directly to the Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) director and will be responsible for:
• Assisting individuals and community stakeholders in addressing and resolving complaints and concerns in accordance with agency policies and operations, particularly concerns related to ICE enforcement actions involving U.S. citizens;
• Informing stakeholders on ERO policies, programs, and initiatives and enhance understanding of ERO's mission and core values;
• Engaging stakeholders and building partnerships to facilitate communication, foster collaboration, and solicit input on immigration enforcement initiatives and operations; and
• Advising ICE leadership on stakeholder findings, concerns, recommendations, and priorities as they relate to improving immigration enforcement efforts and activities.
The newly created position highlights ICE's ongoing work to enact significant policy changes and improvements to the immigration enforcement process. ICE also renewed its policy to speed up immigration proceedings in an effort to promote public safety, border security and the integrity of the immigration system.
However, illegal immigration activist groups contend this new policy is nothing more than amnesty and will only encourage those entering the U.S. illegally to cut in the long immigration wait-list line.

La Raza to fight Congress on proposed law closing child tax credit for illegals
Behind the scenes, National Council of La Raza continues its work to protect illegal immigrants from U.S. tax law. While the U.S. taxpayers are on the hook for $15 trillion of debt, La Raza would like to give illegals up to $1,800 in tax credits.
“In order to extend the payroll tax holiday, Congress is considering a policy this week that will devastate over five million children in immigrant families across the country by eliminating the Child Tax Credit for households who pay taxes with an Individual Tax Identification Number,” said Ali Noorani, National Immigration Forum for La Raza.
La Raza contends that Congress’ proposed new legislation will force illegal immigrants to pay $1,800 in taxes. The reality of the tax-credit loophole means most of these low-income earners will not pay more in taxes, but they will not get a refund check from the IRS.
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), they issue “Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITIN) to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) from the Social Security Administration (SSA). ITINs are for federal tax reporting only, and are not intended to serve any other purpose."
In an effort to pressure lawmakers, La Raza has confirmed that a conference call is scheduled tomorrow with Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office and other immigration experts to learn what can be done to prevent the proposed changes to the Child Tax Credit from becoming law.
“Congress is on the brink of denying this tax credit to immigrant and mixed-status families, regardless of the fact that they paid their fair share in taxes,” Noorani said. “If we take action now we can stop Congress from succumbing to divisive and hateful politics, and protect tax-paying families and their children.”
With the Obama Administration teeing up the “fair share” argument on the airwaves, La Raza is willing and able to use some of the angry political rhetoric to further their quest for a form of blanket amnesty.
“A fair economy is the talk of the nation, but some members of Congress have their ears plugged,” according to Leticia Miranda, Associate Director of the Economic and Employment Policy Project for La Raza. “Lawmakers are seriously considering raising taxes on hardworking, low-income, taxpaying families in order to pay for an extension of the payroll tax cut. Rather than asking millionaires to pay their fair share, they want to raise taxes on those who can least afford it—by blocking taxpayers who use the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from receiving the Child Tax Credit. If this policy is enacted, more than four million Latino children and their families would face greater hunger, poverty, and other severe hardships, with negative consequences for the economy today and for years to come.”
While this may be a compelling plea, the IRS makes it clear that the ITIN does not authorize work in the U.S. or provide eligibility for Social Security benefits or the Earned Income Tax Credits.

San Diego car wash owners jailed for hiring & harboring illegal aliens
The owners of a San Diego car wash were arraigned in federal court yesterday for hiring and harboring known illegal aliens.
The owners Sun Jae Lee, 51, and Ju Hea Kim, 54 were charged with a criminal conspiracy complaint for harboring illegal aliens. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Diego, a conviction carries a five-year prison sentence and a fine of $250,000 for each defendant.
The two arrested defendants own and manage Betty’s Car Wash in the north San Diego community of Rancho Penasquitos. Authorities said the arrests took place after a routine search of the business.
Officers on the scene also detained alleged illegal aliens working at the car wash. Authorities said the illegal workers will be held as material witnesses in the case.
According to prosecutors, “the majority of those employed by the defendants lacked legal documentation that would allow them to work in the United States. Additionally, Kim and Lee allegedly rehired two employees who were deported while working at the car wash and then returned to the country illegally.”
The complaint also contends that Kim instructed two employees to hide from view because Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials had arrived at the business.
The defendants will face U.S. Magistrate Judge William Gallo on Monday.

Illegal immigrant sues Nebraska to pay for prenatal care
A pregnant illegal immigrant, who applied for free medical treatment and was denied because she resides illegally in America, has sued the state of Nebraska.
Sarah Roe, 33, currently lives with her husband and tried to received medical assistance from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for her unborn child.
Once Roe was denied coverage, she filed a lawsuit through the Nebraska Appleseed Center claiming her unborn child was entitled to state-funded medical care.
According to Roe and her lawsuit documents, she has paid out-of-pocket expenses to monitor her unborn child. Roe even admits that her legal status in this country is an “ineligible alien” that disqualifies her for state-funded medical coverage. However, Roe contends the unborn baby does qualify for free healthcare.
The Nebraska Appleseed Center claims the state over-stepped its boundaries to end a program that recently covered illegal pregnant mothers through Medicaid. The result is a class-action lawsuit against the state.

Nebraska state officials told the Associated Press that approximately 800 illegal immigrants and 700 legal residents were cut off from Medicaid (free care) in March 2010. The federal government ordered the state to eliminate the Medicaid program because it broke federal government rules.
The loophole in this unique pregnancy coverage allowed illegal immigrants free health care at the expense of taxpayers, regardless of legal status.
However, other medical providers in the state offered these women discounted or free care despite the federal government’s decision.

California looks to change law regarding driver’s license and car impoundments
Rolling closer to passage is California AB 353 a bill seeking to allow those driving without a valid driver's license (either suspended or unable to obtain one due to legal status) to prevent impoundment of their vehicles.
Currently state law mandates drivers caught, usually at safety checkpoints, are written up and their cars impounded for up to 30 days. Authors of AB 353 contend that illegal immigrants and the Latino population in general are more susceptible to losing their impounded vehicles altogether. (The fines and fees can cost more than the car is worth).
Gil Cedillo, (Democrat from Los Angeles and whose campaign treasurer, Kinde Durkee was arrested over the weekend by the FBI for political-related fraud), claims that police impound unlicensed driver's vehicles to raise additional money- something that places an undue burden on Latino families.
AB 353 co-sponsor Michael Allen (D- Santa Rosa) contends; “Checkpoints in some communities have veered off course from the intended purpose, placing more emphasis on impounding the vehicles of sober, unlicensed drivers than on removing the most dangerous drivers from our roads. AB 353, in partnership with my bill, AB 1389, will clarify the original intent of the Legislature — as well as cities, counties and law enforcement — with regard to impoundments and help peace officers devote more time, energy and resources toward deterring and catching intoxicated drivers.”

Hispanic activists’ contend illegal aliens are unfairly targeted and receive the lion’s share of traffic infractions. They also note that these Hispanics earn significantly less than their counterparts and are unable to pay the costly impound fees that can exceed the car’s value.
However, those on the other-side of the aisle believe unlicensed drivers need to pay the price for unlawfully operating a vehicle.
"If we lower this standard, what we are doing is encouraging more people without driver's licenses to be on the roads," said Joel Anderson (R-San Diego and just named the recipient of the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) ‘Legislator of the Year’ Award). There is a reason they don't have a driver's license. It's not because they are a good driver."
Anti-immigration activists also warned that the legislation would remove a big deterrent to illegal immigrants driving without a license.
“It seems if there is a law that inconveniences illegal aliens, they [legislators] are willing to change it,” Ira Mehlman, a Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) spokesperson said.
Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher echoes Anderson’s statement that impounding vehicles are a consequence of breaking the law. “We are a rule-of-law city. The traffic-related crime statistics continue to fall by significant numbers in our city. These safety/sobriety checkpoints are working. It’s why the majority of residents aren’t complaining.”
The proposed law would allow drivers to call a family member or friend who is legally licensed to drive to take the vehicle home without paying fines. Proponents of AB 353 also say these checkpoints are set-up as a way to make money for the police departments.
“That notion is ridiculous our traffic safety statistics don’t lie. Our streets are safer because we enforce the law,” Maher finished.

California’s DREAM Act part 2- public assistance expected to clear Senate
Part two of California’s DREAM Act that seeks to provide financial aid for illegal aliens hits the Senate floor. The controversial DREAM Act legislation is expected to pass along party lines that heavily favor Democrats.
AB 131 is sponsored by Democratic Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) and proposes illegal alien students can compete for the $40 million in public financial aid like Cal Grants and other fee waivers.
Earlier this year, California Governor Jerry Brown signed part one of the (DREAM ACT) college package AB 130 into law. This law granted illegal alien students access to the state’s $88 million in private financial aid.
As uncertain economic conditions persist, illegal alien access to taxpayer money is sure to create much more opposition. “I struggle to stay in college and depend on financial-aid packages,” said Emily Sanchez, a California State student. “We should not be offering money to those in country illegally before every American student who wants to go to college- period.”

Latino activist group MALDEF wants a 2nd all-Latino district in California
The Los Angeles Redistricting Committee’s new constituency lines met with fierce opposition by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF). The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors provisional-redistricted map failed to generate a second “Latino-majority supervisorial district.”
MALDEF contends five of the County Supervisors neglected their obligation to create a second all-Latino district as mandated by the federal Voting Rights Act. “They need to respect the Federal Voting Rights Act (in order to) avoid an expensive lawsuit the county is guaranteed to lose,” said Thomas Saenz, President and General Counsel of MALDEF.
In an email, Saenz pointed to the Census Bureau statistics that showed the Hispanic population in Los Angeles County, between 2000 and 2010, grew by almost half a million residents. On the other hand, the county lost approximately 150,000 non-Latino residents. “Latinos now make up almost half the county's population,” he said.
However, MALDEF argues that the majority of the County Supervisors “specifically Supervisors Mike Antonovich, Don Knabe, and Zev Yaroslavsky apparently oppose creating a second Latino supervisorial district. They are more interested in preserving their comfortable, current district lines,” Saenz said.
He also says that Los Angeles County has put incumbents' preferential district lines ahead of Hispanic voting rights in the past. Twenty years ago, Los Angeles County lost a Voting Rights Act lawsuit that found some supervisors intentionally sought to prevent the creation of a Latino district. The lawsuit paved the way for the first Latino member of the Board of Supervisors, Gloria Molina.
“Now, the Supervisors are on the verge of again adopting a map that disrespects the Latino community and its population growth. Moreover, they are on the verge of violating the Voting Rights Act by failing to create a new Latino district when they know that one is warranted,” Saenz explained.
In an effort to secure another Hispanic district, the Advisory Commission received several maps from leaders that would create a second Latino-majority district. Nevertheless representatives Knabe and Yaroslavsky rejected all redistricting proposals.
As a result, MALDEF is encouraging Latino residents to call or email their representatives and make the following points;

1. It’s just, and it is the law.Support the creation of a second Latino district because it better respects Los Angeles County's population and the Federal Voting Rights Act.
2. Latino voters have a long memory. The Latino community will interpret self-interested votes to deny a second Latino district as hostile actions against the Latino community. Remind them that the Latino community has a long memory should these Supervisors ever want to run for future offices.
3. Don't waste taxpayer money.Los Angeles County lost a costly lawsuit the last time it tried to ignore the Federal Voting Rights Act. Don't waste taxpayer money by triggering another successful lawsuit.
The County Supervisors MALDEF are targeting include; Gloria Molina, 1st District; Mark Ridley-Thomas, 2nd District; Zev Yaroslavsky, 3rd District; Don Knabe, 4th District and Michael D. Antonovich; 5th District Mayor.
MALDEF is a leading Latino civil rights organization specializing in courtroom litigation ensuring Hispanics get equal access to education, employment, immigrant rights and a voice in the political arena. Border Patrol foils cocaine and crystal meth smugglers
Border Patrol agents east of San Diego stopped two separate drug smuggling efforts and seized more than $300,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine headed for the streets of Southern California.
Yesterday, Border Patrol agents came across a female U.S. citizen driving a Plymouth Neon at the Pine Valley checkpoint. She arrived with a 22-year-old male Mexican national passenger and during the inspection process agents became suspicious of the occupants nervous behavior and directed them to a secondary inspection.
Once the K-9 team inspected the car, agents found illegal drugs in the rear of the car. Further examination lead Border Patrol agents to a non-factory compartment inside the car’s rear bumper.
“Inside the compartment, agents discovered eight bundles of cocaine with a total weight of 22.05 pounds and an estimated street value of $220,500,” according to a Customs and Border Patrol press release. “The suspected smugglers and drugs were taken into custody and subsequently turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.”

On Sunday agents detained a 19-year-old male United States citizen driving a 1998 Ford Mustang. Agents said the driver appeared nervous and directed him to a secondary inspection. The Border Patrol K-9 team inspected the car and alerted agents to the trunk of the Mustang.
“Agents searched the vehicle and discovered five packages of methamphetamine with a total of 5.38 pounds worth an estimated street value of $107,600. The suspected smuggler and drugs were taken into custody and subsequently turned over to a multi-agency drug taskforce,” CBP said.
Both cars were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
The San Diego Border Patrol checkpoints have confiscated more than 65,000 pounds of marijuana, 1,368 pounds of cocaine and 317 pounds of methamphetamine since October 1, 2010.

Man dies after rock attack- proving Border Patrol Agents claim that rocks kill
Police reported today that a San Diego man attacked in June with a rock has succumbed to his injuries. Authorities say they are withholding the name of the 31-year-old victim pending family notification.
Joshua Larson, 37, is accused of the crime and was arrested on June 24 for his role in the assault. Prosecutors originally booked him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder; however, the charges have now been upgraded to murder. The defendant remains in custody with a $1 million bail requirement and could receive life in prison if he is convicted on all charges.
“Larson was arrested on June 24, and is suspected of hitting the victim in the head with a rock,” said SDPD Lt. Ernie Herbert. “The victim walked out of a canyon to Washington Street and flagged down a car.”
Lt. Herbert went on to explain that the victim was only able to tell the driver of a passing car that he had been hit with a rock.
It was only two weeks ago that a San Diego Border Patrol Agent shot and killed a rock thrower along the international border. The Agency came under fire for using excessive force by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other illegal alien sympathizers.
U.S. Border Patrol released this statement; “Our agents face many dangers while protecting our country. It is unacceptable for our agents to come under assault by members of criminal organizations that have no regard for our laws or the well-being of our agents. There is no doubt that large rocks thrown at a person can seriously injure or kill them. Our agents, like all law enforcement officers, are trained to protect themselves and others against serious bodily harm, while performing the duties that they swore an oath to uphold.”

San Diego Border Patrol shooting death of Mexican national rock thrower (previous story)
The San Diego Police Department has taken over the overnight shooting death investigation, where a Border Patrol Agent shot and killed a Mexican National. The illegal alien allegedly crossed the international border fence one-and-half miles east of the San Ysidro port of entry.
Border Patrol Agents reported that the agent on the scene encountered three illegal border crossers. Once the agent, who has not been identified yet, proceeded to question the suspects, the men fled and threw several large rocks.
The Border Patrol Agent immediately called for back-up, according to the San Diego Police Department. Once the second agent arrived, police say two suspected illegal aliens fled back into Mexico, and a third threw rocks and a large piece of wood with exposed nails.

A struggled ensued during the apprehension of the third assailant, and the BP Agents were pelted with rocks and wood, according to SDPD homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert.
The Border Patrol Agent, who was first at the scene, fired his gun, killing an illegal border crosser after the agents were under attack. The suspect fell onto the Mexican side of the border where officials say he succumbed to his injuries.
Mexican authorities identified the 40-year-old dead man as, Jose Alfredo Yanez Reyes.
The injured agent was treated for his injures and later released.
Herbert said, one suspect was arrested, but his name has not been released.
Neither Border Patrol Agent has been named, according to the San Diego Police Department who has taken over the investigation.
The American Civil Liberties Union called for the Border Patrol to review its shooting policy regarding rock throwers (on the Mexican side of the fence) and want to make sure agents don't used excessive force.
San Diego Border Patrol is no stranger to the daily barrage of illegal border crossers, in fact, BP Agent Robert Rosas was murdered in July of 2009 by illegal smugglers just yards from the U.S./Mexico fence.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the violence Border Patrol Agents face while securing the nation’s southern border every day.

Nearly 9 out of 10 Latino babies born in the U.S. relied on WIC says La Raza
La Raza sent out an email blast this week to supporters urging them to demand that their local lawmakers “Save our babies! Stop extreme cuts to the WIC program.”
The La Raza email blast pointed out that, “nearly nine out of ten Latino infants born in the United States participated in WIC in 2008. This program has been especially important for Hispanic expectant mothers, who are less likely to have access to prenatal care and medical information,” according to Jennifer Ng'andu, Deputy Director, Health Policy Project for La Raza.
With the economic health of the country at risk and states’ drowning in red ink, many lawmakers have turned to popular programs as a way to solve their budget shortfalls.
The “food and nutrition” WIC program began in 1972 and was made permanent in 1974, by Republican President Richard Nixon. The WIC program is administered by the federal government through the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The WIC program provides food, nutrition counseling, and access to health services to low-income women, infants and children. However, it is the ever-increasing Latino population in the U.S. that relies heavily on the government subsidy.
“The Latino community’s access to WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants, and Children, is under immediate threat,” Ng'andu said. “The House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee has voted to cut WIC funding by nearly $650 million, which will result in up to 350,000 mothers, infants, and children falling off the program. Given that Latinos make up (42 percent) of all program participants, the Hispanic community is expected to be among the hardest hit.”
Ng'andu continues to say that, “WIC has been an essential nutrition assistance program for Latinos and has long been proven to prevent many of the costly conditions that result from hunger and malnutrition.”
The National Council of La Raza contends that Hispanic families were the hungriest families in 2008, and say Latino children make up nearly 40 percent of all children living with hunger. “The last thing we need is to take food out of the mouths of vulnerable mothers, babies, and young children,” Ng'andu said.
Currently, many State WIC programs hand out vouchers to participants that they can use at approximately 46,000 authorized food stores nationwide.

Supreme Court rules in Arizona’s favor – E-Verify to be implemented statewide
The state of Arizona finally caught a break; the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state’s ability to require employers to use the federal E-Verify program. The decision also allows the state to revoke business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal workers.
The E-Verify program is a successful federal program that uses Social Security card numbers to ensure prospective employees are able to legally work inside the United States. Proponents of E-Verify would like to see this program used by all businesses in the country and say it would curtail illegal aliens from crossing the porous southern borders because they would no longer be able to get a job.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision that upholds a state’s right to revoke business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal workers is a giant leap in the right direction for meaningful immigration reform,” said Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Chairman of the bi-partisan House Immigration Reform Caucus. “Congress must take the next step and enact laws that end our implicit encouragement of illegal immigration and address its cause: employers who exploit illegal labor.”
When it comes to moving forward and dealing with the large illegal alien population currently residing in the country, lawmakers say turning off the ability for illegals to get a job needs to be at the top of the “honey do” list.
“Implementing the E-Verify system is something Democrats and Republicans must work closely together on to achieve. It is imperative that we end an employer’s ability to hire an illegal worker and that we eliminate any notion of amnesty so that illegal immigrants are without two major incentives for breaking our laws,” Bilbray said.

Mr. President – Protect America First
The U.S. border security debate is contentious, loud and needed and Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu makes his case to President Obama...
President Obama says the border is more secure than ever, declared the border fence complete and said, “These people will never be satisfied, until we build a moat and put alligators in the moat.”
We don’t need a moat or alligators in Arizona – we simply need the federal government to do their job and secure the border! Last year, 219,300 illegal immigrants were apprehended in just one sector of Arizona and many with violent felony criminal records.
The U.S. Border Patrol estimates another 400,000 made it safely past them in Arizona and now reside in your community. If the majority of regular illegal immigrants can sneak into America, what does this say about the ability of terrorist sleeper cells?
The porous U.S./Mexican border is the gravest national security threat facing America. This is no longer just a political fight to stop Barak Obama from giving amnesty to over 12 million illegals, it’s also about protecting our nation from terrorist threats.
Thousands of illegal entrants hail from State Department countries of interest--Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and others. In some cases, we have confirmed their troubling ties to terrorism.
Yet for those we apprehend how many today live amongst us? If the border is secure, why did the feds post 15 Billboard signs in Pinal County warning American citizens; Danger – Public Warning – Travel Not Recommended, due to armed drug cartel smuggling?
This is 70 miles into Arizona, where Homeland Security confirms that no fewer than 100 of our beautiful mountains have been repurposed as lookouts for the Mexican Drug lords.
America can secure the border if we replicate the success of what was accomplished in the Yuma Sector. The Yuma Sector has now attained a 96% reduction of illegal border crossings. The Senator McCain/Kyl 10-Point Border Security Plan is developed largely from the learned successes of the Yuma Sector during Operation Jump Start.
This plan calls for immediate deployment of 6,000 armed soldiers for a period of two years. While soldiers are deployed, the double barrier fence is completed with video surveillance, lighting, sensors and roads to support rapid deployment of US Border Patrol.
Thirdly, fully enforce the law without any diversion option. We need focus on the solution to secure our border, not on a path to citizenship or amnesty for 12 million.
If President Obama were sincere, why did he not pass immigration reform in his first two years, when he had supermajorities in the House and Senate? Instead, in a purely politically and racially divisive manner, he says he’ll fight now when there is little hope of passage.
The President has failed to fulfill his core constitutional duty to protect America.
President Obama led us to believe he would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We’re no closer to leaving than when he made these false promises. He bombs Libya for humanitarian reasons and yet ignores the outcry of neighboring Mexico in their war against the drug cartels, which have claimed over 35,000 lives and nearly toppled their government.
Mexico is America’s second largest trading partner and we share nearly 2,000 miles of porous border, which presents a far graver national security threat than anything we face in the Middle East.
Mexico is not our enemy. The cartels are the enemy of Mexico and America. They have brought their violence here to America. Local Sheriffs can’t fight them alone. We can address this growing threat, or we can make jokes, laugh and believe the border is more secure than ever.
Sheriff Paul Babeu is President of the Arizona Sheriff's Association and the 2011 National Sheriff of the Year.

Dems push the DREAM Act and use passage as a carrot for entitlement reform
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin (D) encouraged Republicans to consider passage of the DREAM Act as a good faith down payment on immigration reform; one that could lead Democrats towards meaningful entitlement reform he said.
Durbin told Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) on Fox Sunday News program that if the GOP passed the DREAM Act, Democrats would be more willing to talk about reducing the country’s spending habit. In other words, Republicans would give amnesty to illegal aliens in exchange Democrats would go along with some spending cuts. The stuff smoked-filled back rooms are made of.
The reintroduction of the DREAM Act comes after the President made a trip to the Texas/Mexico border last week and berated Republicans for moving the goal post and needing a moat with alligators in order to move forward with comprehensive immigration reform.
Republicans argue that Obama’s idea of immigration reform is nothing more than amnesty and future Democratic voters. Republican lawmakers on the Hill predict the bill will go nowhere because the Congress must focus on increasing the country’s deficit, passing a 2012 budget as well as implementing meaningful cuts to reduce the nation’s ballooning $14 trillion deficit.
However, the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, that would grant millions of illegal immigrants in the country amnesty is a dream that never dies for those on the left. The Democrats simplistic plan says that offering illegal children a college education or the option to join the military as a means to join the legal immigration ranks will be an economic boom for the U.S.
Others, like Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) disagree.
“It (the DREAM Act) grants illegal aliens ‘conditional’ permanent resident status upon the receipt of a high school diploma, or simply enrolling in a college program or the military grants aliens normal LPR status (green cards) upon finishing two years of college or service in the military—requirements the Obama Administration can waive. It also authorizes states to give illegal aliens in-state tuition so that your tax dollars will openly be subsidizing illegal immigration; and it makes newly amnestied aliens eligible for numerous taxpayer-funded student loan programs,” FAIR contends.
Some states, including in Illinois and California, have already passed initiatives to help illegal young people to finance college. Both these states are facing billion dollar deficits because a large part of their population resides in the country illegally. They also have well-paid education employees.
According to the San Diego Tribune, “The average district teacher receives more than $64,000 a year, 27 percent more that the median salary in San Diego County, and gets 16 weeks of paid time off. This teacher also gets a 10 percent annual contribution to retirement from the district and state; automatic raises based on years on the job and for additional education; and pays nothing for health insurance, including for his or her dependents, with just $10 medical co-pays. Teachers also get tenure after only two years of employment, with a cursory employment review every five years.”

Raise your hand if you want to be a teacher.
Programs to assist Latinos in college already exist
The CA Political News reported that, “The federally funded College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), thrives at the California State Universities as well as across the country. CAMP describes itself as ‘a supportive service program that provides recruitment, academic, personal, career, cultural, leadership and retention services.’”
The program is only open to potential university students whose parents have worked in agriculture for at least 75 days during the past two years.
“Why are these kids more worthy of solicitude than, say, children of factory workers? Because farm workers are mostly Mexican, of course,” CA Political News post says.
They contend that programs like CAMP ensure that universities increase its Hispanic student population, and provide statistical proof that “social justice” is practiced on college campuses.
“This obsession with ethnic and racial diversity perverts the traditional idea of a liberal education and aggressively pursuing a superficial diversity of skin tones or surnames means lowering admission and evaluation standards in order to achieve the desired ethnic and racial mix,” City Journal’s Bruce Thornton said. “Hence the CAMP program offers its clients ‘academic’ and ‘retention’ services, which shepherd the underprepared through their courses to graduation.”
DREAMs future
During the lame duck session last year, five Senate Democrats voted against the DREAM Act and there is no guarantee that they will flip their vote if the legislation makes its way through Congress.
The DREAM Act died last December by a vote of 55-41 and many lawmakers on either side of the aisle say they won’t tackle the divisive amnesty issue during the 2012 election cycle.
Durbin says, “We're not giving up," on the DREAM Act. "We should not punish children for the actions of their parents. That isn't what the American people want us to do. It isn't the American way."
Just like the movie Friday the 13th and its endless sequels, the DREAM act seems to be one of those pieces of legislation that is taken off the shelf, dusted off and put in front of lawmakers when pandering to Latinos reaches a boiling point.

Fantastic news Obama’s immigration speech says the border fence is finished
President Obama stood before thousands of Texas Democrats and La Raza (The Race) supporters and told a whopper of a lie- “They (GOP) wanted a fence. Well, that fence is now basically complete.”
This is welcome news for those who live near the 2,000-mile southern border; unfortunately it is another propaganda-type lie.
Let’s educate Mr. Obama regarding what exactly is a fence. According to Webster’s Dictionary, a fence is a barrier that serves to enclose an area; an inclosing structure of wood, iron, or other material, intended to prevent intrusion.
Keeping this in mind, the President’s claim that the fence is “basically complete” is untrue. A Government Accountability Office (GAO) February 2011 report says Border Patrol does not control the border. In fact Border Patrol only has the ability to control or prevent illegal entry for 129 miles of the 1,954-miles of U.S./Mexico shared border.
To date the GAO report concluded that Homeland Security has only built 646 miles of border fence. Of this very little was the “two layers of reinforced fencing” that was required by the Secure Border Act. Also included in this secure fence number was 347 miles of pedestrian fencing as well as 299 miles of vehicle barriers.
"Pedestrian fencing is designed to prevent people on foot from crossing the border and vehicle fencing consists of physical barriers meant to stop the entry of vehicles," said Richard Stana, director of homeland security for GAO.
In March, Stana told the committee that Homeland Security had only improved the total length of border fence by three miles last year.
The GAO goes on to reveal that an additional 744 miles of border region gives the Border Patrol power to stop an illegal entry at "distances of up to 100 miles or more away from the immediate border."
Add those numbers up and that leaves 1,081-miles of America’s southern border open and means Homeland Security has no "operational control" along much of the border.
That doesn’t sound secure.
The president also alluded to the fact that border cities are the safest cities in all of America.
Lie number two.
Looking at an annual statistical report put out by the Executive Office for the United States published in 2010 highlighted the violence on the border.
"The violence along the border of the United States and Mexico has increased dramatically during recent years and the violence associated with Mexican drug trafficking organizations pose(s) a serious problem for law enforcement," the report indicated.
It continues to describe that "Illegal immigration provides the initial foothold with which criminal elements, including organized crime syndicates, use to engage in a myriad of illicit activities ranging from immigration document fraud and migrant smuggling to human trafficking. Federal prosecution of border crime is a critical part of our Nation's defense and federal jurisdiction over these offenses is exclusive."
Even President Obama's own Justice Department, says there were more than two-and-a-half-times as many criminals (8,435) charged in federal court in Western Texas, coincidentally El Paso is located in this sector, than in the combined districts of Southern New York (1,959), which includes Manhattan and the Bronx, and the Eastern New York (1,377), which includes Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, according to CNSNews.
There are other issues and expenses attached to the mass amnesty President Obama is recommending.

“An amnesty would cost taxpayers millions, if not billions of dollars—at a time where debt is at its ceiling and budgets are busted. It would also reward those who broke the law and came to the U.S. illegally over those who came to the U.S. the legal way,” explained Jena McNeil of The Heritage Foundation.
“Winning Hispanic votes is his (Obama’s) end game,” Israel Ortega says. “It's obvious that political calculations are driving the President's push for immigration reform in light of his all-time-low support among Hispanics. President Obama's advisors remain convinced that immigration reform will guarantee their support, despite polling that indicates that unemployment and education are issues that keep most Hispanics up at night.”
Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA) who represents a San Diego community directly affected by illegal immigration thought Obama’s speech was overly optimistic.
“The President provided plenty of good examples for success stories of legal immigrants in his campaign speech. But exploiting their success stories as justification for amnesty to an estimated 11-20 million illegal immigrants who have violated our nation’s laws and cut in line is completely irresponsible,” Bilbray said. "While the crime rate and number of illegal crossings along the border is down, the federal government has still not done enough to address the source of the problem – employers who use illegal labor.”
Congressman Bilbray along with many immigration-minded lawmakers also favor a nationwide implementation of E-Verify to ensure all employers play by the rules and hire only those legally able to work in the U.S.
“The President mentioned holding employers accountable for hiring illegal workers but he has yet to join me in the call for nationwide implementation of the E-Verify system. I call on President Obama to join with members of the House Immigration Reform Caucus to implement a nationwide E-Verify program to hold employers accountable,” Chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus finished.
Meanwhile, south of the border in Mexico the warring drug cartels continue to step up their brutal murderous ways; this week in Durango, Mexico six human heads were left at the entrance of a secondary school forcing classes to be cancelled because the scene was too gruesome. Authorities conducted an extensive search for the bodies without any success; unfortunately these gruesome scenes are the rule- not the exception.
With scenes like this playing out around the savaged Mexican country, it’s not hard to understand that Mexicans’ want to run the border and grab a better and safer life, but none of the proposals included in President Obama’s comprehensive immigration reform plan addresses the rush of illegal aliens leaving Mexico and other Central American countries.
If America moves forward with an immigration reform plan without addressing the drug cartels and massive corruption in the Mexican government, it will only be a matter of time before the second and third wave will head north looking for that “better life” courtesy of the American taxpayer.

Maritime illegal alien smuggling ring busted in San Diego
A six-hour large-scale operation that started in San Diego on Friday and ended in Orange County resulted in the capture of four illegal aliens accused of smuggling illegals along the Mexico/California coastline.
According to Border Patrol, “The smuggling investigation leading to the arrests shifted into high gear at around 7 a.m. Friday after the Carlsbad Police Department located an abandoned panga-style boat near Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, Calif. Local authorities alerted federal agents from the Los Angeles Border Enforcement Security Task Force (LA BEST) and U.S. Border Patrol who had been tracking the movements of this smuggling organization for several weeks.”
Authorities reported that they were monitoring a van in a Ranch Palos Verdes neighborhood suspected of being involved with the smuggling ring. But they abandoned the vehicle surveillance at sunrise when nobody showed up.
“Investigators say the Ensenada-based vessel that came ashore in Carlsbad was originally supposed to make landfall farther north. However, the smugglers had to abort the plan after the boat developed engine trouble,” according to San Diego Border Patrol.
However, BP Agents caught a break when the panga-style boat came ashore in Carlsbad and authorities alerted LA BEST and Border Patrol who then resumed their surveillance and tracked a van to an Anaheim apartment complex.
“When investigators entered the (apartment) residence, they encountered nine illegal aliens from Mexico whose clothes were still wet and caked with sand from the morning’s boat landing. Agents also detained four alleged members of the smuggling ring, including one of the organization’s suspected leaders. Those charged in the case are:
Mario Echeverria, 24, a naturalized U.S. citizen residing in Tijuana, Mexico. Echeverria is suspected of being one of the ringleaders of the maritime smuggling organization; Javier Gomez-Dominguez, 30, of Mexico, the alleged caretaker of the Anaheim drop house; Jose Sevilla, 26, of Mexico, the suspected captain of the smuggling boat; and Fernando Medina-Gonzalez, 43, of Mexico, the alleged smuggling boat navigator and fuel man.”
The men are being charged with conspiring to bring, transport and harbor illegal aliens and face up to 10 years in prison.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security say, “Friday’s events offer further evidence that maritime human smuggling has expanded from the San Diego area into Orange and Los Angeles counties. In recent months, suspected human smuggling boats have come ashore as far north as Malibu.”
The U.S. maritime enforcement team has been collaborating with the Mexican government to curtail the illegal smuggling of aliens and drug trafficking along California’s coastline.
“The surge in maritime smuggling here in the Los Angeles area poses a significant security and safety threat, which is why it demands an aggressive response,” said Claude Arnold, special agent in charge for ICE HSI in Los Angeles. “We know these criminal organizations’ clients include previously deported felons and others we don’t want in our communities. Beyond that, there are serious safety issues for the smuggled aliens themselves, who are being transported in overloaded, often unseaworthy boats, risking injury or even death.”
Federal law enforcement agencies point to this case as proof multiple departments can and do work well together.
“The arrests made in Anaheim are the outcome of exceptional collaboration within the federal law enforcement community,” said U.S. Border Patrol San Diego Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott. “Our efforts to fuse intelligence and operational planning capabilities have and will continue to produce successful results in deterring illegal maritime border crossings. We will continue to disrupt, dismantle and defeat the transnational criminal organizations operating within the San Diego Sector area of influence whose criminal activities endanger both our citizens as well as those who are smuggled through treacherous ocean waters.”

Southern Exposure documentary “exposes” U.S. border inconsistencies
Two words used most often to describe the U.S. illegal immigration problem are – divisive and political. However a new documentary, Southern Exposure, provides a balanced look at the U.S./Mexican border and sheds light on America’s porous southern borders.
If you want a bird’s eye view of the tale of two countries and their respective border problems this two-hour documentary provides the good, the bad and the ugly issues that ranchers, law enforcement and lawmakers contend with on a daily basis.
The film focuses on four prominent topics; the threat to public health (environmentalists), cartels and terrorists, drug smuggling and finally Aztlan and Reconquista (redeeming parts of the southern U.S. land some Mexicans believe was illegally taken from them).
The filmmakers began their journey with one thing in mind - explore all aspects of the southern border. After three arduous years the balanced documentary was finally released. The footage primarily focuses on the Arizona portion of the border and interviewers manage to get U.S. Border Patrol Agents as well as local law enforcement to describe the sometimes harsh conditions that Americans who reside near the border are face with on a daily basis.
What compelled Stan Wald to take three years of his life to document what some call America’s third war? “Being close to the border, Jerry and I saw what was happening locally, but it was never reported by the main-stream media, so we began our research and discovered many untold stories."
“This out-of-pocket project was our way of saying thanks to those who still believe in the values of this great nation,” Wald explains. “Our hope is that those who watch will become better informed and just as angry as we were after investigating the back stories.”
For those who are curious about the painstaking journey that illegal aliens decide to take for a “better life,” Southern Exposure does not disappoint. The devastation illegal border crossers feel when they are apprehended is captured on film.
The documentary also provides an inside look at Border Patrol Agent’s job to track and arrest those entering the country illegally.
However, along with those “coming for a better life,” immigrants are an increasing number of drug smugglers, terrorists and other hardened criminals. Wald points out that this increasing danger along the border is evident with the recent murders of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Arizona rancher Robert Krenz.
“Our southern border may be less porous than in past years, however, if it was as secure as Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says, Agent Terry and Mr. Krenz might still be alive today,” Wald said.
Combine these murders with the growing drug cartel/gang crime exploding in large and small cities in America and you have a recipe for disaster.
“The degree of increased violence throughout the country by illegal alien cartel members living here and the unstoppable drug trafficking is far greater now than ever. Napolitano and DHS officials have been misleading the American public with the seriousness of the problems,” Wald finishes.

Perhaps a lesser-known repercussion that illegal immigration brings to the desert is the environmental damage. The coyote (human smuggler) often uses the same path each time they lead a group of illegal aliens deeper into the U.S. and during the desert trek they leave behind an immense amount of litter, old clothes (that would identify them as Mexicans) as well as human feces.
While the environmentalists may not be quick to respond to the desecration of America’s desert region, Arizona lawmakers have been quick to draw up legislation in an effort to curtail the multi-billion dollar industry. Tougher laws, like SB1070, may have sparked a national backlash; it has also put the light a problem that will not go away on its own.
With the help of Wald, Southern Exposure provides lawmakers and the general public with first-hand knowledge of the complex illegal immigration crisis that American’s who live near the border face every day. Many remote desert residents admit that they are afraid to walk alone on their own property due to the increase of heavily-armed drug traffickers.
If there is one thing Wald wants Americans to take away from this documentary it’s the failure of the U.S. government to uphold the laws already on the books and protect the nation’s borders from dangerous criminal elements that not looking for that “better life.”
“The silence from the environmentalist organizations regarding the disease from illegal aliens and the dumping of hazardous waste in wildlife preserves is concerning,” Wald explains. “Also the political push to appease radical Hispanic activist groups for the sake of securing cheap labor and future voting blocs is harmful for Americans. And finally the unwillingness of many illegal aliens to assimilate with Americans” will only continue the border region quagmire.
What's more, at a Senate Homeland Security Committee meeting last week, a Federal Auditor asserted that the Border Patrol was only able to patrol and stop illegal aliens from entering America for approximately 129 -miles of the nearly 2,000-mile border. This well-known fact is not something lost by those who seek illegal entry into the country.
In the past four years there have been more than 35,000 murders related to the drug cartels in Mexico (that’s more than the Afghanistan and Iraq wars combined) and this violence has contributed to many illegals fleeing Mexico’s narco-state. In the end, Southern Exposure’s filmmakers hope their snapshot of border insecurity can assist lawmakers and law enforcement in their quest to protect the country from foreign threats.

Iowa mock high school shooting drill to highlight racism against Latinos
A high school “mock shooting crisis drill” scheduled for this weekend in Iowa has created a big brouhaha, one that might cause the event to be canceled all together, according to the County Board of Supervisors spokesperson.
This Saturday the Pottawattamie County planned to conduct an exercise with the Treynor, community schools that would simulate a school shooting. According to an email the premise of the “mock shooting” suggested that a student, whose parents oppose illegal immigration (amnesty), would arrive at school with a gun and shoot a Latino student.
The “mock crisis drill” event has been confirmed by the Treynor High School as well as the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors who said the impending large protest rallies and community concerns may alter or halt the planned weekend drill.
Multiple calls to Doug Reed, the coordinator of the “mock drill” went unreturned.
The following was sent from Joan and Michael Becker, whose child was sent home with a permission slip to participate in the “mock school shooting drill.”
“Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Agency Homeland Security Exercise & Evaluation Program (HSEEP)-
Please read this entire email. There has NEVER been an incident such as the one they are manufacturing here in the State of Iowa or any other for that matter. This is highly politically motivated, racially inflammatory and completely egregious.
What message does this send to those students and families in that school district? It very powerfully suggests that any students with parents that have a certain viewpoint are racist and dangerous. It is completely politically motivated unbelievable egregious and has no place in any school.
I would love to organize a protest rally for that day but will be in Des Moines for the CPAC conference. I am urging everyone to at least email and call the organizer of this exercise, the superintendent, and the school principle to let them know how unacceptable this is on many levels.
Attached is the planned mock school shooting exercise scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Treynor Community Schools. The premise is that a white teen boy, whose family is involved in anti-illegal immigration rallies and favor guns, goes to school and shoots a Hispanic in a rural school.
This premise is politically motivated, as it is the view of the Democrats in power that white American citizens who believe in all of their Constitutional rights are extremists and terrorists. It is an act of silencing my family, and it is an act of intimidation of all American citizens who believe in our rule of law.
Details: My teen daughter had signed up to participate in the mock school shooting with the approval of my husband, who is in law enforcement. He thought it would be good for her to know what would happen in the event of a school shooting.
Today, he received the attached e-mail and attachment outlining the details of the exercise. Upon calling Mr. Reed, the EMS coordinator in charge, my husband used facts as the basis for requesting that the scenario be changed. My husband was told that my daughter was no longer able to participate in the exercise and that they were not welcome to be one site on Saturday!
As I said, this is government intimidation; it is framing white people as crazy racists and Constitutionalists as extremists.
I have forwarded this information to U.S. Representative Steve King, who has fought against illegal immigration and values our Constitution. I am contacting all of you to let you know of this travesty so you can spread the word. I am also going to contact Greg Forristal, my Iowa Representative. I do not know what else to do other than notify the local newspapers of this event…
Please respond so I know if you got this in its entirety, what you can do to help spread the word, what else I or we can do, locally and nationally in bringing attention to this attack of American citizens and our liberties.

Immigration think tank sees birthright citizenship as threat to U.S. security
A new Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report examined the consequences of America’s liberal birthright (anchor baby) policy and found that the program may have national security implications.
The study Entitled “’Birthright Citizenship for the Children of Visitors: A National Security Problem in the Making?,’ provides original estimates on the number of annual births to temporary visitors, whether birth tourists, students, guest workers, or Mexican citizens with border-crossing privileges. The report suggests that this policy is a national security vulnerability and discusses how U.S.-born, but raised-abroad terrorists can (and have) used their citizenship against us.”
The Center for Immigration Studies key findings included;
* Nearly 200,000 children are estimated to have been born to women lawfully admitted as temporary visitors from all over the world in 2009. By comparison, according to other studies, more than 300,000 children are born each year to illegal aliens.
* Short-term visitors, including women who come as birth tourists expressly for the purpose of having a U.S.-citizen child, account for about 20 percent of these births (39,000). While most foreign tourists stay for two weeks or less, according to DHS statistics a large number of people who are admitted as tourists stay for periods of three months or more, including an estimated 780,000 women of child-bearing age.
* Another 20,000 annual births are estimated to young foreign women who are admitted as short-term residents, such as students, guest workers, exchange visitors, investors, and other categories that allow for multiple years of U.S. residence.
* The cohort that accounts for the largest number of births to foreign visitors is Mexican women who hold Border Crossing Cards (BCCs). An estimated 130,000 births are estimated from this group of women, who have virtually unrestricted access to U.S. cities and towns in the southwest border region. Because the identities of BCC holders are not checked upon entry and the exits are not tracked, the cards frequently are used fraudulently by imposters seeking illegal entry.
The report also concluded that these birth tourist children have become some of America’s biggest adversaries.
The high-profile children include Anwar al Awlaki, a U.S.-born cleric who is now residing in Yemen and directing home-grown terrorist attacks against America; and Yaser Esam Hamdi, a U.S.-born enemy combatant captured in Afghanistan and released from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia in 2004.
CIS points out the common denominator with Al Awlaki and Hamdi is the fact they were both born in the United States to parents admitted as temporary residents on non-immigrant visas.
These two men, however, were raised and radicalized in the Middle East.
The birthright or anchor baby issue should weigh heavily on lawmakers who are trying to reform America’s immigration laws- failure to do so will only result in more home-grown terror attacks.

Gamers to get a new violent game- Call to Juarez: The Cartel
Violence south of the border is not a game in real life but the makers of a new video game, “Call to Juarez: The Cartel” are banking on the brutality of drug kingpins to lure gamers into coughing up $60 to play cartel assassins.
The new cartel shoot-them-up video game has angered some Mexican lawmakers who believe kids will get the wrong idea about the real-world war taking place in Juarez, Mexico.
“Call to Juarez,” is set to be released sometime this summer and is fashioned , after “Call of Duty” a modern-day solider-of-fortune best-selling video game based on the war in the Middle East.
However, FoxNewsLatinoreports that some Chihuahua state legislators said they have requested federal authorities ban "Call of Juarez: The Cartel," which depicts drug cartel shootouts in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez.
With more than 35,000 murders in the past four years, Mexico’s deadliest city, Juarez, had more than 6,000 murders in the last two years alone making it the most dangerous city in the world.
Game developer, UBISOFT Entertainment SA has posted previews on their website and opening scenes illustrate three characters armed with assault weapons ready to fight, maim and kill anyone in their way.
The video game’s catchphrase advises competitors to, “Take justice into your own hands and experience the lawlessness of the modern Wild West.”
Speaking out against the violent video game was Ricardo Boone Salmon, a Chihuahua state congressman, in Juarez, who said the Mexican state legislature unanimously approved a request this week asking the federal Interior Department to ban the sale of the game.
“It is true there is a serious crime situation, which we are not trying to hide,” Salmon said. “But we also should not expose children to this kind of scenarios so that they are going to grow up with this kind of image and lack of values.”
Other Mexican officials warned of the potential effects for kids in Ciudad Juarez, some of whom have been taught to “duck and cover” when gun battles erupt near their schools.
“Children wind up being easily involved in criminal acts over time, because among other things, during their childhood not enough care has been taken about what they see on television and playing video games,” Serrano said. “They believe so much blood and death is normal.”
Nevertheless, death and violence are daily happenings in Juarez and cartels continue to exert their power by murdering rival-cartels, innocent bystanders and law enforcement agents on both sides of the border. The lack of response by U.S. and Mexican officials will only serve to increase the murder rates as drug kingpins continue to act with impunity.

Border Patrol snares 31 illegal aliens along San Diego coastline
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 31 illegal aliens yesterday who tried to unlawfully enter the country aboard small, panga-style boats off the San Diego coastline.
Just after midnight, Border Patrol agents, working in conjunction with CBP Air and Marine Branch, spotted a panga boat cross the U.S. international boundary and travel north along the California coast.
The vessel came ashore near the mouth of the Tijuana River, several individuals disembarked and then the boat quickly returned south towards Mexico. Border Patrol agents wasted no time and apprehended 14 individuals and placed them under arrest for unlawfully entering the United States.
According to CBP, two female and 11 male Mexican nationals as well as one male Honduran national were transported to a local Border Patrol station for processing.
“A second maritime smuggling attempt was intercepted this morning near Camp Pendleton, California. At approximately 2:50 a.m., Border Patrol agents observed a panga-style boat approach the shoreline near Red Beach. Several individuals jumped out of the boat and headed toward cliffs east of the shoreline,” a CBP statement read.
Border Patrol agents quickly responded to the scene and arrested 17 individuals who all claimed to be Mexican nationals illegally entering the United States. Agents transported 13 males and 4 females to a local Border Patrol Station for processing.
However the boat absconded back toward Mexico, before agents could reach the location.
With the deployment of the National Guard along the California coast, CBP and Border Patrol have been able to hone their nighttime observation skills and been able to foil many daring maritime entries into America along the Southern California coast.
