Osama bin Laden killed by Navy Seals ending a decade-long hunt

The founder of al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, dead at the age of 54.

Senior White House Officials reported the walls closed in for bin Laden last year when actionable intelligence determined the founder of al Qaeda was indeed residing in Pakistan. With that knowledge intelligence agencies began work with the military to formulate a plan to kill the world’s most wanted man.

"Osama Bin Laden's death at the hands of American forces is a fitting end to the world's most notorious terrorist,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista, CA), Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and previously a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence from 2006 until 2009.

Ironically, information gathered at the controversial “secret prisons” was used to paint a picture of bin Laden’s inner circle and, as a result, the U.S. was able to locate and kill bin Laden.

Scholars have always contended that history is written by those who win the battle and America won this battle.

“History will record that bin Laden’s death came at a time of great movements toward freedom and democracy, at a time when the people across the Middle East and North Africa are rejecting the extremist narratives and charting a path of peaceful progress based on universal rights and aspirations. There is no better rebuke to al-Qaida and its heinous ideology,” said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The daring operation carried out by Navy Seals as well as CIA operatives took less than 40 minutes to execute. No members of the U.S. team were killed, no local Pakistan authorities assisted in the raid, four men were killed (including bin Laden, his son and two couriers), and one woman was killed while she was being used as a human shield. Several other women and children on the Pakistan compound escaped injury.

Now American intelligence agencies will focus on disrupting any retaliation efforts posed by al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
